Jewett Creek

Streamkeepers Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Jewett Creek Streamkeepers is to coordinate efforts of concerned citizens and organizations interested in protecting and improving the Jewett Creek watershed. The Streamkeepers strive to maintain and enhance water quality, fish habitat, riparian vegetation zones; promote public education; protect land by working with recreationist and private land owners to instigate best management practices; and continue to improve monitoring efforts in the Jewett Creek watershed. The Streamkeepers do not regulate, but rather educate and empower community members who are concerned with maintaining a healthy watershed.

Who affects the watershed?

All the different stakeholders within the watershed affect it; therefore, a group of people representing the various stakeholders in the watershed was created. The Jewett Creek Streamkeepers were established in 1993 through efforts of Whitson Elementary School, the National Fish & WildlifeFoundation, US Fish & Wildlife Service, and the Underwood Conservation District. Projects have included clean-ups, water quality monitoring, habitat restoration and enhancement, and education.
